Mr. Roach is the instructional leader of the high school. He is responsible for overseeing the education of his students. Mr. Roach’s duties include development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of educational and student services, administering the program in accordance with board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements. He serves as an advocate for the staff, school, and school community as appropriate. Roach believes a primary tenet of his job is to provide programs and courses to meet the needs and interests of all the students at Mt. Vernon High School. Mt. Vernon High School is an “A” rated school, the top rating for schools in our state.
Mr. Roach serves as the co-chair of the International Program for the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation. He has hosted on behalf of Mt. Vernon students and teachers from China, Taiwan, and Germany.
Mr. Roach has visited China and Taiwan seeking to learn their best educational practices in order to improve the instruction for his students. He plans to visit Canada and Germany along with return visits to China and Taiwan during the 2018-19 school year. Mr. Roach has worked to increase the number of exchange students coming to Mt. Vernon High School from 4 to 6 each year to as many as 20 each year. He has a vision to bring as many cultures into his school as possible combined with opportunities for Mt. Vernon students to visit other countries to be immersed in other culture throughout the world. The International Program leadership is authorized by the United States government to accept exchange students to attend Mt. Vernon High School for up to two years and graduate with a Mt. Vernon High School diploma.
Mr. Roach has served 27 years as an educator. He taught middle school math for 3 years, a director of athletics for 15 years, and a high school assistant principal for 7 years. He is currently the Principal at Mt.Vernon High School and the Summer School Administrator for the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation.
